Hanoi at the table: phở, bún chả and the MICHELIN stars
The back story
About Hanoi at the table: phở, bún chả and the MICHELIN stars
In the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Vietnam, four Hanoi restaurants hold One Star: Gia, on Văn Miếu street opposite the Temple of Literature; Tầm Vị, on Yên Thế; Hibana by Koki, the teppanyaki counter beneath Capella Hanoi; and ONVIT, Korean contemporary cooking in the west of the city. Beside them, MICHELIN gives twenty-two Bib Gourmands, its mark for good quality, good value cooking, and the list reads like a map of the Old Quarter: phở on Bát Đàn and Lý Quốc Sư, bún chả on Hàng Than and Nguyễn Hữu Huân, eel glass noodles on Hàng Điếu, bánh cuốn on Hàng Gà.
The starred tables
Gia (61 Văn Miếu) and Tầm Vị (4B Yên Thế) both cook Vietnamese food, Gia in a contemporary tasting menu, Tầm Vị in the manner of a northern family meal. Hibana by Koki is a teppanyaki counter on the lower floor of Capella Hanoi; ONVIT is on the third floor of the Grand Plaza Hotel on Trần Duy Hưng. All four hold One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 guide.

The dishes to know
Phở: rice noodles in a clear beef or chicken broth. Bún chả: grilled pork with cold rice noodles, herbs and a sweet-sour dipping sauce. Chả cá: turmeric-marinated fish fried at the table with dill and spring onion. Bánh cuốn: steamed rice-flour rolls. Miến lươn: glass noodles with crisp eel.
Dining rooms with a view
Cầu Gỗ, on the upper floors of 9 Đinh Tiên Hoàng, looks over Hoàn Kiếm Lake; Le Beaulieu, in the Metropole, keeps the city’s French tradition; Lamai Garden is in Tây Hồ, near West Lake. All three are in the MICHELIN Guide.
Our advice: book the starred tables ahead; for the noodle shops, go early, sit on the low stools and order the one thing they make.
